Can modified engine need upgraded starter motor?

Engine modifications can absolutely require an upgraded starter motor.After‑market changes that raise compression ratio,increase displacement,change rotating mass or alter cranking requirements can overwhelm the factory‑original starter,even if it worked fine on stock configuration.
